FAQ

Questions

What hosts and guests ask most, answered plainly.

Do guests need an app or an account?
No. Guests open a link or scan the sign on the door and type in their phone's browser. They give a first name and nothing else.
Does the host need an account?
Yes, to save an event. You sign in with an email link, Google or Apple, because an event is set up weeks ahead, checked along the way and often run from another phone. Guests never sign in.
Do we need a TV?
No. Everyone answers on their own phone, and with no TV the phones show what the TV would. If there is one, it shows the questions, photos, toasts and scores to the whole room.
Can it be a surprise for Sam?
Yes. Sam never sees what anyone sent in before the event, surprise or not. For a surprise you fill in the Basics yourself. If you are Sam and the host, the event runs Blind, so you see it all with everyone else.
Do I have to check everything guests send?
Only if you want to. Checked is the default: you approve everything before the event. Straight to the TV skips that, and you still see what is coming next. Blind means you see nothing coming either. Whichever you choose, skip and next work instantly, family and work events never get the Roast, any guest can report a contribution, and you can remove any of them.
What happens to the photos?
Location and camera details are stripped from every photo before it is stored. Photos are only used in that event and on its keepsake, never shared with another event, and the host can remove any of them.
Who can see the keepsake?
Anyone with the link. It isn't listed in search engines, and the host can take anything off it or delete it.
How long does the keepsake last?
A year after the event, and a year after the last time anyone opened it. Anyone who can open it can save everything on it, and the host can delete it at any time. A free event has no keepsake unless it is paid for, and is deleted 60 days after its date (later while guests are still sending things).
Can I try it free?
Yes. A free event has questions you write and the rounds that need nothing sent in. Guests can send things in to a free event too; pay when you want the rounds made from them and the keepsake.
What currency will I pay in?
Australian dollars in Australia, pesos in Mexico, euros in Spain and the rest of the euro area, and US dollars everywhere else. Each price is set on its own and never converted: Pricing lists all four.
Is it written by AI?
The questions and their wrong answers are drafted by AI (Google's Gemini) from what guests sent in, and a different model checks the facts. The right answer always comes from what a guest sent. Nothing a guest sends is used for another event.
What if someone arrives late?
They join partway through, on their phone like everyone else.
Can it be for someone who has died, or who can't be there?
Yes. Memorials are one of the occasions, the Soft theme is suggested for them, and the Roast and rowdy rounds never appear. When Sam can't be there, the rounds that need Sam live drop out or fall to the host.
Which languages?
English, Spanish for Latin America and Spanish for Spain. Guests see the event in its language, with a switch at the bottom of the page.
How do I delete an event, or my account?
From your events at hearhear.to/account. Deleting an event deletes it and its keepsake for everyone. Deleting a paid event before we start making its questions gives you its credit back to use on another event. Deleting your account deletes every event you own and its keepsake for everyone, co-organisers and guests included; the app lists those events first.
